A man wakes up after sleepingunder an advertised blanket,on an advertised mattress, pulls off advertised pajamas, bathes in an advertised shower, shaves with an advertised razor, brushes his teeth with advertised toothpaste, washes with advertised soap, puts on advertised clothes, drinks a cup of advertised coffee, drives to work in an advertised car,and then, refuses to advertise, believing it doesn't pay.Later when business is poor,he advertises it for sale. Why is it?This is because Marketing is essentially a very vital and indispensable function of a business. Genesis—the marketing society of SSCBS aims to explain the various developments in the field of marketing and foster a learning environment for all students. It was formed a year ago. Its major objectives include enhancing skills of the future Marketing Gurus through practical applications of theoretical knowledge and to constantly update the students about the happenings in the world of Marketing. Team Genesis created its blog http://cbsgenesis.wordpress.com/ which is updated with informative stuff such as advertisement of the week and discusses the life of famous marketing gurus. This year we aim to analyze real-life marketing case-studies, study the marketing mantras of our fortnightly mentor, bring out our e-magazine Markequity quarterly, organize seminars and invite guest speakers. Also, Genesis organized Brand Wars at its annual cultural fest Crescendo ’09 at Pragati Maidan on 11-12 February. The event experienced an amazing response from the public and had as many as 55 teams from different colleges of India participating in it. The first round tested students on a general marketing awareness quiz and case study analysis and 8 teams were short listed for the next round. The next round was an audio visual round in which audio clips were shown to the qualified teams. This aimed to test their spontaneity and the real know how in the field of marketing. An intra college event, Canvas attracted great partcipiation in which contestants had to formulate marketing strategies based on random newspaper articles. The first prize was won for strategy on Commonwealth Games whereas the strategy for a Rs 500 laptop won the second prize. |
