DUMUN ’11 ORGANIZED BY SHAHEED SUKHDEV COLLEGE OF BUSINESS STUDIES

Delhi University Model United Nations, better known as DUMUN, is India’s first and only Central University Model UN Conference under the aegis of University of Delhi.

DUMUN was first held from October 22-24, 2010. In the second year of its inception, DUMUN provides a framework for participants to facilitate incorporation in international law, international security, economic development, social progress, human rights and achievement of world peace. With the MUN concept gaining momentum in India, DUMUN aims to provide its participants an unprecedented experience.

The 2011 conference kicked off on 22nd October 2011. The opening ceremony commenced with the auspicious lighting of the lamp, symbolic of righteousness and prosperity. The occasion was graced by the benign presence of Professor S.K. Vij (Special advisor, Delhi University), Professor. Gulshan Sawhney (President, Students Welfare, DU), Dr. Poonam Verma(Principal, Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies) and Ms Sonia Sareen (Convener, DUMUN’11).

The distinguished guests addressed some 400 odd delegates representing universities from all across India as well as international delegates from Thailand and Bangladesh.

“DUMUN is a global event with a high level of competition.” – Pimmada, Thailand.

The DUMUN 2011 was declared open by the Secretary General- Rajat Rai Handa at the end of the Opening Ceremony.

Ranging from the conventional Security Council, Human Rights Council and Economic and Social Council along with the unconventional Futuristic General Assembly to the unique flagship simulations of the Military Staff Committee and the UEFA Congress for the first time in the world at any Model UN Conference, DUMUN’11 saw it all.

The Secretary-General, Rajat Rai Handa quoted, “At DUMUN, we believe that while the United Nations is one of our most important and valuable institutions, we recognized that it couldn’t solve every problem. All of us have a role to play in making our world a better place. And when we say “all of us,” we don’t just mean nations. we mean average citizens who, through active participation in the political and social life of their communities, can bring positive change and reshape the world.”

Here’s what some of the participants had to say-

Kartikeya Batra- “It is events like this that make me rue the fact that I have graduated! Great organization, excellent participation with sparks of enviable intellect flying all around.
